Sidra Medicine, a Qatar Foundation entity, is set to host the Precision Medicine and the Future of Genomics 2024 Summit (PMFG 2024) from December 3-5 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The summit will focus on three key pillars: Genomics for All, Precision Diagnostics, and Advanced Therapeutics, bringing together global experts, innovators, and stakeholders to explore the latest advancements in personalized healthcare.
Dr. Iyabo Tinubu-Karch, CEO of Sidra Medicine, emphasized Qatar's leading role in precision medicine, crediting local institutions like Sidra Medicine, Hamad Medical Corporation, and Qatar Precision Health Institute for pioneering therapies and world-class research in genetic and genomic medicine, pediatric rare diseases, and precision health.
Dr. Ammira Akil, lead of the Genetic and Metabolic Disorders Clinical Research Programme at Sidra Medicine and chair of PMFG 2024, highlighted the summit's focus on collaboration and innovation, showcasing advancements in precision medicine, including newborn genome sequencing, population genomics, precise diagnostics, and breakthrough therapies.
With an emphasis on ethical considerations and practical implementation, PMFG 2024 will offer insights into how early genomic information can personalize newborn care, the integration of large-scale genomic advancements into healthcare systems, and targeted treatments for complex and rare diseases.
Prof. Khalid Fakhro, Chief Research Officer at Sidra Medicine, noted Sidra's pivotal role in shaping precision health in the Middle East, particularly through the development of a comprehensive Arab genomic database. The summit will feature Dr. Robert Green from Harvard Medical School as the opening keynote speaker, recognized for his groundbreaking work in newborn genomic sequencing.
