Amgen, a global biotechnology leader, is set to establish a new technology and innovation site in Hyderabad, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy. Named Amgen India, the site will open in the fourth quarter of 2024 in Hitech City, spanning six floors and accommodating up to 3,000 employees.
Hyderabad was chosen for its renowned talent pool in medicine, life sciences, data sciences, and its advancing AI sector. The new facility will bolster Amgen’s digital capabilities, accelerating the development of innovative medicines. David M. Reese, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Amgen, emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, noting that the convergence of biotechnology and technology enables Amgen to operate with greater speed and efficiency.
Amgen India will focus initially on AI, data science, and life sciences, with plans to scale its global capabilities. Som Chattopadhyay has been appointed as the national executive to lead this expansion.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu expressed pride in Hyderabad’s selection, highlighting the city's growing reputation as a life sciences hub. They emphasized the government’s commitment to partnering with Amgen for long-term success.
