Six NHS trusts will adopt deepc’s AI radiology platform through a collaboration with the AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare (AI4VBC). This partnership aims to accelerate the NHS's adoption of radiology AI, improving diagnostics and care across pathways such as dementia, cancer, and heart failure.
The AI4VBC has developed secure platforms over the past five years to enable access to health data for building and deploying AI models. Through this initiative, deepc will provide technology, expertise, and resources to support the centre’s innovations and enhance deployment in clinical settings.
Franz Pfister, CEO and cofounder of deepc, emphasized the need to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI capabilities and healthcare systems’ ability to utilize them. “Hospitals and doctors recognize AI’s potential but need support to unlock these benefits and overcome technical challenges,” he said. “This collaboration with AI4VBC will help position the NHS as a global leader in radiology AI.”
Initially, deepc’s platform, deepcOS, will be deployed across six NHS trusts, with plans to expand to ten. The first wave of trusts includes Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, Lewisham and Greenwich, Imperial College Healthcare, University Hospitals Sussex, and East Kent Hospitals.
Professor Sebastien, director of the AI4VBC, noted that the partnership will provide these trusts access to over 75 validated AI tools. “This is just the beginning. Together, we can establish the NHS as a leader in the safe and effective use of AI,” he said.
The collaboration aims to create a secure ecosystem for developing further AI healthcare tools. Deepc also joined the King’s Health Partners Digital Health Hub in March 2024 to advance AI radiology efforts in the UK. In July 2024, the Munich-based startup secured €12 million in Series A funding, bringing its total funding to €30 million.
