Philips Unveils Next-Generation 1.5T BlueSeal MRI at RSNA 2024
Royal Philips has introduced its latest 1.5T BlueSeal MRI scanner, featuring a 70 cm wide-bore design and integrated AI-enabled MR Smart Workflow solutions. Designed to enhance diagnostic confidence and patient access, these innovations aim to increase daily throughput in high-demand healthcare settings without compromising diagnostic quality.
A key advancement is Smart Reading, a cloud-based AI toolset developed in collaboration with icometrix and Quibim. It automates quantitative reporting for conditions like Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, and prostate cancer, driving precision diagnosis. Additionally, the scanner’s helium-free BlueSeal technology offers eco-friendly, lightweight design—up to 1,700 kg lighter—allowing flexible installation in challenging locations.
AI integration spans the entire workflow, from patient setup and image capture to advanced diagnostics and reporting. This approach supports technologists with consistent, efficient imaging, critical in neurology, oncology, and cardiology. Customers like MRT Praxis Potsdam report increased daily patient throughput, reaching up to 40 patients with the SmartSpeed-equipped BlueSeal system.
“Philips’ helium-free innovation and seamless AI integration expand access to quality MRI across various healthcare settings,” said Ioannis Panagiotelis, PhD, Global Business Leader MRI at Philips.
By combining precision diagnostics, eco-conscious design, and AI-driven efficiency, the new BlueSeal system redefines MRI’s role in delivering accessible, high-quality care.
Philips Launches Spectral CT 7500 RT for Advanced Cancer Care
Royal Philips has announced FDA 510(k) clearance for its Spectral CT 7500 RT, a groundbreaking radiotherapy solution that enhances personalized cancer care by integrating spectral CT imaging into treatment planning. This innovation allows radiation oncologists to precisely target tumors based on their unique characteristics while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
The Spectral CT 7500 RT combines conventional and spectral CT imaging in a single scan and is the first radiotherapy CT scanner to offer respiratory-gated spectral imaging. This dual functionality provides radiation oncologists with enhanced tumor visualization, tissue characterization, and 4D imaging capabilities, improving treatment precision while streamlining workflows. Its design eliminates the need for additional scans, reducing costs and enabling more effective treatment for a broader range of patients.
Spectral imaging enhances radiotherapy planning by reducing proton stopping-power ratio (SPR) errors by over 50% compared to conventional CT, improving accuracy and sparing healthy tissues. The system automatically generates SPR maps and electron density (ED) results with less than 1% deviation, enhancing dose calculations and treatment precision.
Dr. Zhong Su, Physics Director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, highlights its value: “Spectral CT offers electron density and atomic number data, which translate to more accurate proton stopping-power ratios and reduced uncertainty margins during treatment planning.”
A leader in spectral CT technology, Philips delivers solutions across cardiology, oncology, neurology, and more. With Spectral CT 7500 RT, Philips strengthens its legacy of enabling precise diagnostics and expanding access to personalized cancer care.
