Basepair, a bioinformatics firm based in New York, has teamed up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to integrate AWS HealthOmics with its software platform. This collaboration aims to provide a seamless integration of AWS HealthOmics’ genomics-optimized storage and next-generation sequencing analysis capabilities into Basepair’s platform. The partnership allows users to leverage these capabilities without compromising data security, as all processing occurs within their secure AWS environment.
According to a joint statement by Basepair and AWS, the integration offers a cost-effective solution for healthcare and life science organizations, eliminating the need for data to leave the secure AWS environment. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.
Tehsin Syed, the general manager of Health AI services at AWS, highlighted the importance of creating an environment where research scientists can execute workflows and visualize data interactively. Basepair’s software, known for its simplified graphical user interface, facilitates these tasks while ensuring data governance, security, and usage commitments within the customer’s AWS account.
The integration promises several benefits, as outlined in a white paper authored by the partners. These include cost savings compared to traditional data storage methods, predictable pricing, scalability, improved collaboration among research and development teams, and faster insights generation.
Basepair has previously collaborated with other bioinformatics firms, such as Complete Genomics, Scale Biosciences, and Arima Genomics, demonstrating its commitment to advancing genomics workflows and data management. With this partnership, Basepair and AWS aim to further enhance the capabilities and accessibility of genomic analysis tools for the healthcare and life science industries.
